Auction Listings Defined

As a seller, you can choose the type of listing that gets the results and the price you
want! As a buyer, check out which listing type you'd like to try.

Reserve Price Auctions
A reserve price is set by a seller who will not sell below a certain price.
Bidders know there's a reserve price, but they do not know what it is.
In order to win the auction, a bidder must meet or exceed the reserve price and have
the highest bid.
If no bidders meet the reserve price, neither the seller nor the high bidder are under
any further obligation.
You can't use reserve prices for
Dutch Auctions.

Buy It Now
This is an exciting optional enhancement to the traditional auction format. See an item
you want? Win it instantly!
Sellers name a price at which they would be willing to sell their item to any buyer who is
willing to pay that price.
The listing will be run as a normal auction, but will also feature a Buy It Now price.
Buyers will have the option to buy the item instantly without waiting for the listing to end.
Buy It Now will only be available before the first bid is placed on the item. As soon as a
bid is placed, the Buy It Now price will no longer be available and the item will sell
through the normal process.
See the
Learn About Buy It Now page for more information.

Fixed Price
The new Fixed Price format will allow you to buy or sell items instantly at a set price,
similar to the current Buy It Now option available with auction-style listings.
Buyers: Purchase items immediately - no bidding or waiting. It's the fastest, most
convenient way to shop.
Sellers: Sell items at the price you want without waiting for your listing to end. Example:
Set the price for your item at $50 and sell it for $50.
You can sell more than one item at the same time - saving you time and money!
Normal insertion and final value fees apply to Fixed Price listings. There is no additional
fee for Buy It Now.

Private Auctions
Strictly hush, hush—use this auction to protect a buyer's privacy.
Bidders' email addresses won't show up on the item or bidding-history screens.
When the auction is over, only the seller will know who bought the item.
This option can't be used with Dutch Auctions.

Dutch Auctions
This fast-paced, free-for-all format is perfect if you have multiple, identical items to sell.
Sellers start by listing a minimum price, or starting bid, and the number of items for sale.
Bidders specify both a bid price and the quantity they want to buy.
All winning bidders pay the same price—which is the lowest successful bid. That might
be less than what you bid!
If there are more buyers than items, the earliest successful bids get the goods.
Higher bidders get the quantities they've asked for.
Bidders can refuse partial quantities.

Restricted-Access Auctions
This separate category makes it easy for you to find or avoid adult-only merchandise.
To view and bid on adult-only items, buyers need to have a
credit card on file with
eBay. Your card will not be charged.
Sellers must also have credit card verification.
Items listed in the Adult-Only category are not included in the New Items page or the
Hot Items section, and currently, are not available by any title search.
*See the Adult-Only Terms of Use for more information.
Please list adult items in the correct area. Otherwise, your auction may be relocated or
ended. You could even be suspended from the site.
* Notice to Sellers of Adult Items
Various legal statutes regulate the sale and distribution of adult materials. As stated in
the User Agreement, your breach of these laws is a breach of the
User Agreement.

* Notice to Bidders and Buyers of Adult Items
Various legal statutes regulate the sale and distribution of adult materials. Please
exercise caution and obey all applicable laws when dealing with buyers and sellers in
this category. Please do not visit the Adult-Only category if you do not want to see
explicit materials.
Chapter Ten

What is half.com?

Half.com, an eBay company, offers people a fixed-price, online marketplace to buy and
sell high quality, new, overstocked, remaindered and used products at discounted
prices. Unlike auctions, where the selling price is based on bidding, the seller sets the
price for items at Half.com at the time an item is listed. The site's expanding
marketplace currently includes books, CDs, movies, video games, computers,
consumer electronics, sporting goods and trading cards.

Buying at
www.Half.com is similar to the shopping experience at other leading online
retailers. Shoppers can easily search for specific items or browse for items that are
categorized and surrounded with product descriptions, reviews and artwork. Sellers
easily list items for sale by typing in a UPC code, ISBN, or model number, selecting the
item's condition and setting the sale price. There are no fees to list items on Half.com
and sellers are charged a commission on each sale only after an item sells.

Half.com, based in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, was founded in July 1999. Winner
of the Codie Award for Best e-Commerce Web Site Innovation, Half.com is one of the
most visited shopping sites on the Internet and through its ever-growing community of
sellers, offers more than 50 million items for sale. Half.com's phenomenal growth drew
the attention of eBay, the world's largest personal online trading community, who
acquired Half.com in July 2000.

Half.com made national and international news when it launched its site in January
2000, by collaborating with Halfway, a small town in Oregon, who changed its name to
Half.com, Oregon, becoming the first "dot com" city in America.

What is ebay Motors?

If you are planning on either buying or selling a used car, you really should be using
Ebay Motors. Apart from being the largest auction site in the world with over 19 million
registered users and $40 billion in goods sold from their sites in 2000, they have an
auction site specially created for car auctions called Ebay Motors.

It is apparent that Ebay Motors dominates the car auctions sites on the Internet. There
are almost 20 times more cars listed on Ebay Motors than its nearest competitor, Yahoo.

There are numerous number of smaller auctions available on the Internet. Most of the
more well known focus on classic or collector cars which have grown steadily in
popularity over the last 20 years. Many offline collector auctions have moved online
due to the greater exposure available, and the relatively low costs of transport and
transfer compared to the price of the cars. Ebay Motors currently lists 2,187 classic car
auctions. This, again is at least ten times the number of classic cars advertised on its
nearest competitor.
