How to open an eBay store

To open a store on eBay, you'll need to visit the Store Builder. From there you will
need to fill in some general information to get your store started.

- The first step is to enter your store's name. Your custom store's web site address
will be created from your store name. So for example, if you name your store
Maria's Discount Mart, your URL would be:
http://www.eBayStores.com/mariasdiscountmart.

- Next, you will need to enter your payment information. This information will also
be used to give buyers information on where to mail payments.

- Enter your store description. This will appear on your store's Homepage.

- Enter your store's catagories. You are give up to 11 different catagories. For
example, if you plan on selling baby items, you could give baby clothes as one
catagory and then baby toys as another.

- You have two different store options. The Basic Store is $9.95 a month. With this
choice, your store will appear on the subcategory pages where you have items
listed. The Featured Store is $49.95 a month. With this choice, your store will
rotate through the Featured section on both the Stores Directory page and the Top
Level Category pages where you have items listed.

- Next, you will enter your payment methods, ship to locations, shipping costs,
sales tax and return policy.

Now the fun part...

- You get to choose your stores color scheme and graphic. You can choose one of
eBay's predesigned graphics or upload your own logo.

Why open an eBay store?

1. You can save money on listing fees. Stores inventory listings only cost 5-cents
for each 30-day period, plus Gallery is just 1-cent. Sellers who balance their
Auctions and Fixed Price listings with Store Inventory listings can save on total
listing fees and thereby increase their sales and bottom line.

2. A professional-looking Store gives you credibility as an online retailer - and
makes shopping easier for buyers. Having an eBay Store strengthens your identity
as a merchant who takes their business seriously, giving you an established,
'we're here to stay' appearance.

3. Because everything you list on eBay appears in your Store, your Store is the
best way to display your items and make it even easier for buyers to find exactly
what they are looking for. Auctions, Fixed Price and Store Inventory listings all
appear in your Store.

4. Want to list for 30 days ... 60 days ... 90 days ... or Good 'Til Cancelled? Go for it
using our Store Inventory listings. Now you can list items you want to have on the
site for extended or unlimited periods of time.

5. By creating Custom Categories in your eBay Store, you can now group similar
items together - thereby making it easier for your buyers to shop your Store and
find the items they want. Better yet, you get to decide which categories make the
most sense for your items and your buyers.

6. When you open an eBay Store, you'll receive your very own unique URL, built
around your Store's name. That's right! We do this for you, so you can get right
down to business and drive buyers directly to your Store.

7. Using Stores' Merchandising Manager, you have precise control over the
merchandising placements shown on your Bid and Checkout Confirmation
pages-the pages your buyers see after placing a bid. eBay Store sellers are the
only sellers who get this type of control.

8. All Store sellers receive monthly sales reports that outline their activity by
category (e.g., monthly gross sales, conversion rates, number of buyers).
Additionally, if you have a Featured or Anchor Store, you'll also receive
marketplace data to see how your sales compare to other eBay sellers in your
categories.

9. With your very own Search box within your Store, buyers will be able to search
through your items to find exactly what they want. There's no other way on eBay for
buyers to do such searching - and finding.

Naming the Store

The most important decision to make when building your store, take some time to
really think of a name that suits your business. Then if you are looking into building
a website go out and grab that domain name right away. Better yet, see if it is
available first just in case.
MyQuickCart.com is an excellent service for domain
name registering and very affordable.

When choosing a name you do need to be aware of Trademark and Copyright
laws. For example, you can get in trouble for building a website that may confuse
or mislead a customer from a popular brand name. This website is a good
example of one that got in trouble for doing that very thing -
www.ebayshipper.com.
Because they had the eBay name it was misleading to the customers since they
thought this was the eBay approved shipping company. Luckily eBay sent them a
friendly warning but you might not be so lucky.
