Marketing Strategies

Why Keyword analysis is so important to your business
success

First, think about the product or service you are selling. If you are a customer looking for your
company what keywords do you think best relate to your business? For example, with my
business popular keywords would be: wholesale, ebay, abercrombie, clothing etc.

Now, write down 10 keywords you think relate best to your business.  I will show you how to
find out if these keywords will work for your business with my favorite keyword analysis tools.

Wordtracker.com
will be the best resource you can use to research keywords. They compile a database of
terms that people search for. You enter some keywords, and they tell you how often people
search for them, and also tell you how many competing sites use those keywords. Open
wordtracker now by clicking the link shown below:
To get started simply to:
Click on “FREE TRIAL”
Enter your name and email address so they can email the results to you.
Enter the keyword you want to research, in this example I will use the word “wholesale”
Notice they will automatically list other keywords that are related to yours – this will help you
think of other words you may have overlooked.

Here are the terms used on Wordtracker defined:

Count - This shows the number of times a particular keyword has appeared in our database.
E.g. Our database currently holds 312 million words. A count of 147 tells us that this
particular word has appeared 147 times out of 312 million (this is over a two month period).

Dig - When you perform any kind of search in the keyword universe, you can now dig down
to the next level. E.g. search for 'gambling'. Then, when you click on 'online gambling', just
the results for 'online gambling' come up, click on 'online gambling in states' and so on. Great
for focusing on niches.  The keyword database is updated once every week, on Sunday -
ready for Monday morning.

Predicted - This is the maximum total predicted traffic for all of the major search engines/pay
per bids and directories. It is based on the current 24 hour period.

Please bear in mind that the major search engines reported by www.StatMarket.com:

1. Google
2. Yahoo
3. Msn
4. Go Network
5. Aol
6. Lycos
7. Altavista
8. Excite

represent 92.77% of the total search engine queries per day, or approximately 295 out of
319 million.

This leaves 7.23% left for ALL other engines/directories/pay per bid engines or approximately
24 out of 319 million.
The predict figure you see is for ALL engines, directories, or pay per bid engines.

We know that the Wordtracker keyword database size is 312 million entries over the last 60
days. We also know that there are approximately 319 million searches for all engines per day.

Now go to the right side and click your keyword.
Then click for step 3.
Then click for step 4 - it will start computing your keyword.

Here are my results:
Most popular search engine for this keyword: MSN
KEI analysis: 2.826
Count: 3995
24hrs: 895
Competing: 5647173

What does it all mean? This is where you spot your niches in MSN. The figure you want to
take note of is the 'KEI Analysis'. The higher this figure, the more popular your keyword is
and the less competition it has. This generally means that you will find it easier to reach the
top of this keyword.

Generally, a poor keyword to target will have a KEI of between 0 - 10. It's not wise to target
keywords with this KEI as there is too much competition and you will probably end up on page
34 and no-one will notice you!

Good keywords to target have a KEI of between 10 - 100. These are good value bets and
you have a good to medium chance of reaching the top. Between 100 - 400 are your best
bets and anything above 400+ is a gift!

Let's take an example, the keyword  "wholesale". This has a KEI of 2.826 and is therefore a
poor keyword to target (its KEI is less than 10). You can also use the graph above your
keywords to help you visually.
